OECS Assembly Being Urged To Discuss Motion Of No Confidence Stalemate Print Email Details Published on Thursday, 14 November 2013 14:21 Written by Ken Richards Hits: 507 Eugene Hamilton St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The parliamentary opposition in Basseterre is attempting to get their motion of no confidence matter on the agenda of the OECS Assembly. December 11 will be a full year since the motion was filed by opposition leader in the federal parliament, Mark Brantley. To date it has not been put before the House for debate. The combined parliament opposition, which has six elected members in the parliament to the governing Labour Party’s five, wants the OECS Assembly to make a pronouncement on the issue. The People’s Action Movement is one of the three political parties in the opposition alliance known as Team Unity. PAM Deputy Leader Eugene Hamilton told Winn FM that he has written to the Speaker of the OECS Assembly to have the motion of no confidence matter examined by the next sitting of the Assembly. “The delaying of the motion for nearly one year is untenable, and has serious implications for good governance and the rule of law not only in St Kitts and Nevis, but also in the wider region,” Hamilton said, quoting from the correspondence sent to Speaker of the OECS Assembly Rene Baptiste of St Vincent and the Grenadines. He is hoping that the assembly will go as far as voting on a resolution “that will require the government (of St Kitts and Nevis) to act more promptly” on the motion. A regional Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting held in Antigua and Barbuda some months ago focused on the motion of no confidence matter. However Speaker of the federal assembly in Basseterre, Curtis Martin, who was at that session, declined to participate in that discussion. The OECS Assembly is made up of selected elected representatives from both the government and opposition benches in individual OECS member states. - See more at: winnfm/news/local/6256-oecs-assembly-being-urged-to-discuss-motion-of-no-confidence-stalemate#sthash.ICw60ooi.dpuf
