OF CONVERSION AND HE- JESUS- said, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3. THE topic for the Maths. lesson centred on Conversions: Metric and Imperial Units, and although I was the tutor, I saw myself looking down the years, walking to school and mentally reciting, 12 inches, 1 foot; 3 feet, one yard; 1760 yards one mile- and then jolted to the present and immediate when the student inquired, Which upper school did you go to, Miss?, and it was back to the business of calculating the answers to the questions on the worksheet provided. In this calculator- instant age, it is a struggle to enlighten students into any form of mental agility, although their standard attainment tests require them to be able to perform well in this activity. IT is not only in Mathematics that conversion is vital. During our lives, adaptation is necessary to our very survival. We need to revise and check ourselves to ensure that we are walking along the right path leading to the desired destination. In which direction is our compass pointing? Should we make a right about turn? Is what we are occupied with palatable, profitable and pure? Are our motives laudable? IN the Bible, we read of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus, how that his life was dramatically transformed- Acts 9: 1-9-, when THE LORD interrupted his individual carefully-planned and scheduled programme and instituted another. Like Saul of Tarsus, we once went our own way, but thanks to the rebirth in Christ, we are chosen vessels whose honourable task it is to spread the good word of the kingdom of God. THE Psalmist makes an earnest plea three times in Psalms 80 using the words:- Turn us again, O GOD, v3; Turn us again, O GOD OF HOSTS, v7; Turn us again, O LORD GOD OF HOSTS, v19, cause Thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. May we make these words our meditation today: TURN US AGAIN, O GOD. PRAYER LORD, my time is in Thy hand, MY soul to Thee convert, THOU canst make me understand, THOUGH I am slow of heart; THINE in whom I live and move, THINE the work, the praise is Thine, THOU art wisdom, power and love, AND all Thou art is mine.
