OF FALSE POLITICAL WITNESSES Todays lesson in Church had a great Spiritual and Political message. The theme was OUR MISSION. It sought to explore the mission of Christians on planet earth and drew much attention to book of Matthew, particularly Chapter 5 v 14-16 and Chapter 28 v 18-20. From the reading and discussion it was clear that the MISSION of Christians is to WITNESS verbally and/or otherwise that there is God in Heaven, he cares about humanity and has a plan to rescue them from sin and its consequences. Much time went into discussing the definition, character and expectations of a reliable WITNESS. By definition a WITNESS is one who can give a FIRST HAND account of something seen, heard, or experienced. In courts of law anyone who falls short in this definition is a discredited and unreliable WITNESS. In Christian terms it means anyone whose only interaction with Godly programmes is through scripture reading devoid of noticing the works of the Holy Spirit around them is not a reliable WITNESS. Their only relationship with scripture is intellectual. They are those to whom Jesus shall say Hambani elalisebenzela khona angilazi In politics, membership Recruitment is a key determinant of numerical growth. Cadre Development or political education is a key exercise in transforming members and sympathizers into cadres and leaders. The major challenge facing change efforts in Zimbabwe is that our Membership Recruitment programmes are led by us FALSE POLITICAL WITNESSES. Forget about the 3 million or so whose votes we scramble for and even host a plethora conferences, symposia and seminars computing the quantum of electoral theft after each election. Think about the ten million or so who are still convinced there is no one to vote for. Blame the ten million and shout that their electoral abstinence begets our calamity if you like, it wont help. A talkative man is issued with a membership card on Monday. On Tuesday they attend a house meeting and talk too much (sometimes talking sense). On Wednesday they are co-opted into the Local Executive as Vice Chair. On Thursday they are deployed to lead one of the door-to-door teams since we are launching our Recruitment exercise. The outcome of such deployments will be reflected not by the number of people we recruit, not by the number of votes we get but by the number of people who will become more convinced there is no reason to vote. This is the tragedy of fronting INSTANT POLITICIANS in a struggle. INSTANT POLITICIANS are like INSTANT COFFEE. Unlike TEA which is properly brewed in a TEAPOT before it is poured into its final destination- the cup, INSTANT COFFEE is brewed directly on the cup. In order to turn electoral abstainers into voters, political parties ought to be centers for experiencing excerpts of the ideal society we want to create. Unless one experiences NON-VIOLENCE in the operations of their party, their witnessing?recruitment shall be false and not convincing. Unless one experiences NON-DISCRIMINATION in the operations of their party, their witnessing?recruitment shall be false and not convincing. Unless one experiences DEVOLUTION in the operations of their party, their witnessing?recruitment shall be false and not convincing. Unless one experiences RENEWAL in the operations of their party, their witnessing?recruitment shall be false and not convincing. Unless one experiences TRANSPARENCY in the operations of their party, their witnessing?recruitment shall be false and not convincing.
