OFFICIAL:VAN GAAL IS NEW MAN UNITED HEAD COACH Manchester United have announced the appointment of Louis van Gaal as their new head coach on a three-year contract. The Dutchmen has reportedly signed a £7m (R 121 million) per-year contract and will join Old Trafford after his World Cup campaign with the Netherlands. Van Gaal will be the long-term replacement of David Moyes, who was sacked on April 22, with Ryan Giggs taking over in the interim. Giggs will stay on as assistant manager. Frans Hoek, Netherlands goalkeeping coach as well as Marcel Bout, a specialist in opposition scouting, will join as assistant coaches. Hoek help develop keepers such as United legend Edwin van der Sar and Barcelonas Victor Valdes, while Bout previously worked for Bayern Munich, Telstar, AZ, FC Volendam and Feyenoord. Van Gaal was excited about the task ahead, telling the clubs official website, It was always a wish for me to work in the Premier League. To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, makes me very proud. I have managed in games at Old Trafford before and know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is and how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are. This club has big ambitions; I too have big ambitions. Together Im sure we will make history. United finished the season in seventh position with 64 points after winning the Premier League last year with 89 points and Van Gaal’s mission is to lead the Red Devils back to the top. Many expect him to overhaul United’s ageing squad while continuing the club’s successful youth philosophy. The Dutchman is likely to implement the Dutch’s favoured playing style of 4-3-3 and will surely line up some big name signings. A statement on the clubs official website read: Louis van Gaal will take over as manager of Manchester United from the 2014/15 season. He has signed a three-year contract. Louis, 62, has managed at the top level of European football for over 20 years and in that time has won domestic titles and domestic cups in three countries, as well as the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Cup, an Intercontinental Cup, two UEFA Super Cups and domestic Super Cups in Holland and Germany. He will take up his post after the FIFA World Cup, where he will manage the Dutch national team. Ryan Giggs, English footballs most decorated footballer and the United player with most appearances in the clubs history, has been appointed as assistant manager.
