OH GOD!WHY ARE WE LIKE THIS? Over the last one years the northeastern States of Yobe,Borno and Adamawa have been under a state of emergency, aimed at stemming the tide of the activities of the dreaded BH. However, after the expiration of the first six months, the President requested for an extension which a lot of people kicked against on the account that the the emergeñçy rule has not stop the insurgency because soldiers deployed were ill- equipped and poorly motivated compared to the insurgents. Therefore there was a germane call on the Federal government to equip the army and to motivate them adequately. Unfortunately, this candid observations was missed understood and dismissed as the work of opposition, who were usually seen as enemies of GEJ. Unfortunately, the security situation after the extension has gone from bad to worse. As the time of this post, close to ten major local govt. Areas have been captured by the insurgents. Thousands of lives have been killed, many other thousands sent into refugee camps in neighboring Cameroon and Chard. Despair, fear and hopelessness has taken over. Even as dare as the situation in the northeast is, the democratic institutions task with the responsibilities of giving hope and protection to the citizens are obviously overwhelmed by the challenges posed by the insurgency. The National Assembly, the Presidency, the Army all appeared to be lost and confused to say the least. Now how did we get to where we are today? The answer is not far fetched, our politicians have over the years failed to give good governance. Our teaming youths have been neglected, they are either not educated or poorly educated, unemployed or underemployed. Our youths have become political thugs armed and used by their lords to kill and intimidate opposition or perceived political enemies of their bosses. Our democracy since 1999,has failed to provide the critical needs of the citizens despite huge wealth accruing to the country. Corruption, greed and lack of patriotism and injustice on the side of leaders, is to be blamed for this. However, as 2015 is fast approaching,we must be wiser and make a better choice. Nigeria is ours all and not the personal estate of some few individuals, no matter how powerful. So it is a civic duty on all of us to vote for the right candidate not on tribal, religious or other parochial considerations. A word is enough for the wise! God liberate Nigeria our dear country!!!!
