“OH MEN, ABA WOMEN”. THE EVER CHANGING TASTE OF MEN-THE AGONY OF WOMEN. ON BEHALF OF ALL MEN, I STAND HERE TO APPOLOGISE TO ALL WOMEN OF HUMANITY FOR THE INCULCULABLE AMOUNT OF AGONY WE HAVE PUT YOU IN SINCE ADAM AND HAWAW (EVE). ALL THE PROBLEMS WOMEN HAVE HAD IN THIS WORLD AND THOSE THAT THEY ARE YET TO FACE, WERE AND WOULD BE CAUSED BY MEN. MEN, OUR TASTE IS LIKE THE COLOUR OF A CAMELOIN.(when we were children growing up in the then rural sandema, at the sight of a cameloin one was asked to spit onto one’s clothing. the belief was that, the cameloin could change its colour to that of the clothing one was wearing and if this happens, one will die.to avoid death, one must quickly do the spitting before whatever the action of the camelion would be). THE TASTE OF MEN IN REFERENCE TO WOMEN HAS BEEN CHANGING RAPIDLY AND UNPREDICTABLY SINCE ADAM.TODAY, WE PREFER THIS CATEGORY OF WOMEN TO THIS, TOMORROW IT IS THE VICE VERSA. IN THE LATE 80’S, THE MOST PREFERED CATEGORY OF WOMEN WERE THOSE WHO ARE SLIM AND SLENDER AND HAD FAIR SKIN. WOMEN IN RESPONSE, RESORTED TO VOLUNTARY FASTING TO KEEP THEMSELVES SKINNY AND BLEACHING TO ACQUIRE FAIR SKINS.(the issue of bleaching reminds me of an incident i found myself in during one of my trips from togo where i used to spend my holidays.what happened was that, just as the Datsun Pickup in which we were travelling was about to pull up at the customs barrier in Zebila, a town between Bawku and Bolga, a woman seated next to me gave me a packet to put into my pocket and that she will take it when we have crossed the barrier.then, the practice was that all vehicles stoped at the barrier and everybody walks to cross with his/her luggage.when i was about to cross the barrier with the packet in my pocket, a customs officer called and asked me to let him see what i had in my pocket.when i gave it to him, he shouted, “where did you get”.before i could say this woman gave it to me, the woman who was then behind me, vanished into thin air.a quick identification parade of the passengers with whom i was travelling, was organised by the custom officers to enable me identify the woman.the woman was no where to be found.withpleas from the elder passengers among us and my innocent and frightened looks, the officers asked me to go with the warning that i should never accept to keep anything given to me by anybody when travelling on this road. I was later told that what i was entrudsted with is called TOP GEL, used in bleaching the skin). WHILE THE WOMEN WERE FASTING TO MEET THE TASTE OF MEN,THEN,MEN WITH BIG BELLIES AND HUGE BODIES WERE REGARDED AS MEN OF GOOD ECONOMIC OR FINACIAL STANDING, SO MEN WERE BUSY EATING AND DRINKING WHATEVER WOULD GIVE THEM BIG BELLIES AND HUGE BODIES. THOSE DAYS THER WERE FEW HEAVILLY-BODIED WOMEN AND DARK-SKINNED WOMEN IN THE SYSTEM, NA WHO CAUSED IT??? IN THE RECENT PAST, WE CHANGED OUR TASTE AGAIN TO WOMEN WITH HUGE BACKS AND BOOBS BUT WITH LITTLE REFERENCE TO COLOUR. IN RESPOSE, WOMEN DID ALL THAT THEY COULD TO COMPLY. SOME OF THEM DELIBRATELY TWIST THEIR WAISTS BACKWARD TO SHOW OFF THE LITTLE “BLESSING” THEY HAVE AND PHYSICALLY ENHANCE THEIR BOOBS WITH RAGS,IN ANTICIPATION THAT THEY MAY BE CONSIDERED. OTHERS WENT TO THE EXTREME BY GETTING THEIR BACKS AND THEIR BOOBS INJECTED SO AS TO APPRECIATE THEM IN SIZE. TODAY, WE HAVE AGAIN RAISED THE ISSUE OF FAIRNESS OF THE SKIN. WHAT DO WE EXPECT WOMEN TO DO-BLEACHING GALORE.I REMEMBER PUBLISHING AN ARTICLE IN ONE OF THE EDITIONS OF THE MIRROR, DURING MY BATCO DAYS, I THINK IN 1998.I STATED IN THAT ARTICLE THAT, THE DANGEROUS THING ABOUT BLEACHING THEN WAS THAT, EVERYBODY WAS IN THE ACT AND THAT THE ACT WAS MUCH REVERED.THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY, THE YOUNG AND THE OLD ARE COMPETING,THE RURAL WOMAN AND THE URBAN WOMAN ARE COMPETING (the only differnce here is that the rural woman calls it “using” while the urban woman calls it “skin tonning”, just a matter of nomenclature, the value is the same) AND THE EDUCATED WOMAN AND THE ILLITERATE WOMAN ARE COMPETING IN BLEACHING. WHAT MAKES THE MATTER MORE SERIOUS IS THAT, TODAY, TOP GEL IS SOLD EVERYWHERE WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS. I LEARND THERE ARE EVEN MORE POWERFUL CHEMICALS THAN TOP GEL, WHERE ARE WE HEADING TOWARDS????????? AS A STUDENT OF HUMANITY, I SET OUT TO FIND OUT WHY EVEN MARRIED PERSONS ALSO BLEACH FOR MY THINKING WAS THAT THE YOUNG GIRLS WHO ARE SINGLE DO IT TO BOOST THEIR MARKET.I FOUND OUT THAT AS MARRIED WOMEN,YOU MUST WATCHOUT WHAT INTERESTS YOUR HUSBAND SO AS TO PROVIDE HIM IN ORDER TO KEEP HIM AT HOME, OH MEN, ABA WOMEN. I AM JUST THINKING, WHEN WE MEN BEGIN TO PREFER TALL WOMEN TO SHORTER WOMEN OR SHORTER WOMEN TO TALL WOMEN, WHAT WOMEN WILL DO. WILL THE TALL WOMEN CUT PART OF THEIR LEGS SO AS TO LOOK SHORT AND WILL THE SHORT WOMEN HAVE THEMSELVES STRETCHED TO BECOME TALL. I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. I CAN NOT HOLD STATIC THE TASTE OF MEN, BUT I CAN ADVI CE WOMEN. DONT MIND US, KEEP YOUR NATURAL FORM, IF WE REJECT YOU TODAY,WE SHALL COME AFTER YOU TOMORROW WHEN OUR TASTE CHANGES.BE WHOM YOU HAVE BEEN CREATED TO BE, MY DEAR WIVES, ANTIES, NIECES, MOTHERS, ETC.
