OK- Ill try not to be too emo here, but feel like I should tie cinder blocks to my feet today :) my daughter is finally coming home and Christian will be here this weekend. Thanks to the transportation services of his brothers :) Tom, Will and Zach are coming over tonight to help me get rooms organized. It has been such a busy week- I am so thankful for so many of you. The East end kids now have lunches everyday and a bus to the pool during the week and six of them are going to Friends of Camp Little Notch for a week- non of this would be happening with out you. Not just the people that paid for these things like St Marys, Catholic Charities and the Carondolet Foundation, but printed forms for me when my computer got fried ( Kari), volunteered to transport kids to camp. ( Centro Civico is providing transportation but Andrea, Katrina and Teri all offered to help.) Helped filling out medical forms ( Dr Raos office)The older kids from the neighborhood helped me translate and fill out general forms. They have been at the Art Center everyday, handing out bus passes, helping with lunches, keeping things picked up and watering the garden. And walking around the East End making sure that families know what is available. Many of you have asked to remain nameless- but I remember those of you that come and hang out with the kids or teach them skills, or bring kitchen supplies or juice or books. We have created a heck of a village. The kids are even trying to organize a petition and presence at the Common Council about the recent ban of basketball in A-dam and this was not prompted by me. Many are now enrolled in mentor ship programs at Centro and Wishful Thinking to improve their grades. They seem like different kids then when we started this Garden a little over a year ago. So we may not grow the worlds best vegetables- but we have grown some really great relationships ( and we are working on the vegetables :)
