OK I am watching arguments about the Treyvon issue still going on, and I simply want to point out the following: 1. Racism is an ongoing issue that has gotten better, however this DOES NOT MEAN RACISM (OR ANY DISCRIMINATION) IS OVER. ANYONE WHO CLAIMS DISCRIMINATION IS OVER NEEDS TO LOOK AROUND. I have faced discrimination because of narcolepsy, I have seen others face it as well. If you loo around you will see it too. One of the worst arguments I have heard addressing this is that we have a BLACK PRESIDENT so racism does not exist anymore. Simply put, racism will exist as long as anyone looks at another person and judges them based on their race before they know anything more about them. However in some fields this may be necessary to a degree. This does not mean racism does not exist for them, it just means they need to be VERY CAREFUL about where the line is. 2. Following Treyvon (especially after being told to stop, and saying some of the things Mr. Zimmerman said) could very easily be construed as a commission of the criminal act of stalking as defined by Florida law. I still feel a person who is in the process of committing a criminal act does not get to say that shooting someone was self defense. I would love to see law modified to fix this loophole. 3. George Zimmerman was Acquitted. Regardless of whether I feel it was right or not, our law is explicit as to how we treat him from here on out. IF you believe he can be re-prosecuted for this act, please look up Double Jeopardy. No matter what we decide the Jury made their decision. We can argue this till the cows come home and it will not change the outcome of the case.
