OK. I couldnt tell by the photo it was an 8 track instead of the smaller cassette. BUT... The photo they called a ditto is a spirit duplicator. You used a paper that looked similar to carbon paper which printed on the back of the original. The little plastic reservoir in the back on the photo held the magic solution that copied onto multiple copies which smelled marvelous after just being printed. :-). Probably the start of huffing! I used these working in elementary summer school during college. The ditto they referred to had a purple correction fluid that also had a strong smell. I used these at church printing bullitins and newsletters.
