OK, I just wrote this on friend Christopher Clayton-King page and thought it needed posting on my own: During a wonderful luncheon yesterday with Kaye Martin and Petra Chambers Allen, and an eye-opening comment from Kaye, I am from here on going to refer to it as Equity and non-Equity theatre rather than Community Theatre. As mentioned, there is now so much talent in all aspects of this art form that referring, for instance, to The Barn Players Community Theatre does not do it justice in the eyes of those who do not understand the purpose of Non-Equity Theatre. Our talent both on stage, in the pit and in the booth is sometimes every bit as good as what is seen in Equity theatres. The fact that these folks dont get paid (or paid much) and do it and do it purely for the love of the craft, should not diminish the end product. Many just decided on a steady pay check, to stay close to family, are just getting their professional feet wet or are coming back to a youthful passion. The Non-Equity houses train talent and train audiences for the Equity houses. Without the Non-Equity houses cost-effective ticket prices, many people could not afford to enjoy live theatre. So heres to live theatre everywhere! No, somebody help me down from my soapbox.
