OK, I know Im opening myself up on this one... but I would like to see a reasoned, thought-out explanation of why the Affordable Care Act (sorry, dont like to call it Obamacare) is such a horrible thing. Sorry, I wont accept that its because you dislike Obama, or because you vote Republican. The best objection I can come up with is that it removes the individual freedom to make your own decision on health insurance, in terms of whether to carry it or not. But arent there many areas where our individual freedoms have some requirements attached? (for example, Im not allowed to drive 90 MPH on the highway even though my car will go that fast). I realize that there are political and economic arguments on both sides of the equation, that have been hashed out ad nauseum by people much smarter than I am. But it seems to me that where the rubber meets the road for the average Joe, this requirement could help provide decent, affordable health care to many who lack it. I suspect that those who are the chief objectors to the law may be those who already have health insurance lined up through an employer, and who dont have to worry about issues like high premiums or pre-existing condition restrictions that come with purchasing your own coverage. Then again, I could be wrong about all of this. So, again, I ask the question of those who think the law is a heinous and terrible thing. Why?
