OK, Ive put this off long enough. Tried to stay busy this weekend so that I wouldnt have too much time to think about it. Several of you have messaged me wondering what Nans necropsy results were. A lot of you believe that it was the chemo that killed Nan The Chick. That was NOT the case. Birds dont get sick from chemo like people do. So me making the decision to put Nan through chemo was NOT the wrong decision. We found out that he had a lymphoma on the back of his leg and chemo WOULD have worked it that was the only thing wrong with Nan. When I talked to Dr. Rich, he told me that Nans kidneys were enlarged and splotchy, his nerves were enlarged and when he saw Nans lungs, he couldnt believe what he was seeing. Nans lungs were 80-90% covered in nodules. Both Dr. Rich and Dr. Pence do believe that all this was caused by Mareks disease. We wont get the results back from the lab till the end of this week. So although we arent 100% positive it WAS Mareks, both vets believe that it was. Either way, it was Nans lungs that gave out in the end. His death was NOT caused by the chemo. Dr. Rich said that with the way Nans lungs looked, if he hadnt died on Wednesday, then he would have died within 4 or 5 days anyway. I will post the results from the lab as soon as I get them. Im still trying to let all this sink in. I still cant believe my precious Nan is gone. He was one of a kind. He was a lap chicken and a talked. He loved chatting, especially when I was talking to him. Theres a huge hole left in my heart. I feel blessed to have been able to love him and spoil him for the six months I had him.
