OK......Soapbox time.....TItle: San Antonio Rattlesnake Festival....This one is gonna be short and sweet (maybe, lol)...much to my lifelong dislike of snakes, I forced myself to go to the Rattlesnake Festival located in my hometown of San Antonio Florida again...By far, this was the WORST festival I have ever been to since I started attending these in the 70s. I have been there pretty much every year except for when I was in the military. I got there yesterday and it was a DISGRACE to the years gone by! First of all, a food truck rally? REALLY? Can you not remember that there are other citizens that attend this that dont have twelve dollars to fork out for gourmet food served from a truck? What happened to the $5.00 chicken dinners? Did you forget about the families that enjoyed that type of meal and not skewers of Filet Mignon, or Healthy only foods? Its sad...looks like the big names of San Antonio would rather impress their friends than cater to the low to middle class citizens who have lived here all there lives, served in their fire departments, put money into their local businesses. 2nd of all, lets look at the vendors...After the rescue of the Rattlesnake Festival last year (and after yesterday, I doubt the success of that operation), I looked at their lack of vendors/craftsmen with an open mind...If they felt there would be no Festival, I am sure they wouldnt sign up to sell and display their products. But the amount of vendors/craftsmen has dwindled down to half of what there were in days gone by....but HEY! WE HAVE A BEER GARDEN!!! This festival has gone from the local, fun, event centered around families to nothing but an old school no-name circus that is held in an old armory building (for those that remember those)...Get these people back, get rid of your gourmet food rally trucks (who werent even ready for the 10 am start, and some not ready until almost 11), and remember your hometown roots...Yeah I know the Bug-Huggers wont let you lightly tap a gopher turtle with a twig on the back of its shell to race them, or the native americans may not be available anymore to sell blankets, etc....but any of you who grew up in this area remember an enjoyable family event which drew in thousands people (and thats when it was just a one day event full of events, displays, vendors, etc....THATS what people enjoy! Not the crap it you have turned it into, forcing lifelong residents like myself to doubt whether or not to ever return to even a free event such as this....and on a side note....PUT THE DAMN PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT BACK IN THE PARK FOR THE CHILDREN!!! NOT THAT 50 YEAR OLD (note sarcasm) CRAP YOU HAVE LEFT THERE AFTER REMOVING THE PLAYHOUSE, ETC.....Just Sayin!
