OK another one for Denton history buffs... Francis Golightly with his son John Kent Golightly, both Denton people had an engineering business in Hooley Hill. Frances Golightlys father (also Francis) was listed as a master blacksmith and probably that is how the business started. One of their achievements was the invention of the Golightly Lift that was used for lifting railway track bed while repairs were undertaken and lifting engines and wagons that had derailed. The other invention they came up with was a way to turn railway engines round... on a balanced turn table. The Golightly Lift sold well especially in America to the Pacific Railroad Company. John Kent Golightly was my wifes grandfather and the family still has a quarter size working model of the lift that was used as a demonstration model.
