OK, as a corollary to Greg Petersons thread about being a patient, - TopicsExpress

OK, as a corollary to Greg Petersons thread about being a patient, can I make a public service announcement how to save our own oldies but goodies lives. And since were all over 40....... My husbands been in EMS since 1972, so hes of that age that hes above 50. Men, thats the time to start getting your PSAs checked. My husbands came back high, yada yada, in two weeks hes having surgery to get rid of his prostate cancer. With early detection, this disease can be cured and thats what were working for. The one thing that Joe wants is to make sure everyone, especially his brothers in EMS get checked starting at age 50. If you have risk factors such as a first degree relative, a relative with early prostate cancer, or a relative who had an aggressive form of this disease, start at 40. Now organizations such as the AARP and some physicians groups dont believe routine testing is needed, however, since my friends husband was diagnosed at 50 last year Ive met so many people who have proven these recommendations wrong. (Dont give me the statistics vs. anecdotal argument. It doesnt fly when its someone you love.) Were only asking that guys, you get tested. No ice-bucket challenges. No fund raising. Prayers, positive energy and pixie dust appreciated. If nothing else, get tested men. You have spent your lives as lifesavers for others. Be a potential lifesaver for yourself. Thanks for the listen Old Paramedics. Lets continue to grow older and better. Val (NJ MICP 1126)
