OK everyone, here’s the scoop. In more pedestrian language, this is a notice of things to come. Christmas arrives on Friday at 6:30, a little ahead of schedule. Why the haste? Because the semester is coming to an end and we want to catch you before the woes of finals and preparation for the same devour you. So plan now to join us to celebrate an early Christmas. There’ll be Christmas carols, Christmas dinner (which you will kindly bring), Christmas gifts (ditto ie which you will also bring), and the Christmas story which we will provide. This gladsome event we’ll observe at the Pearses’ place (26 Ranfurly Street). If you’d like a ride, be at the uni chapel at 6:10 pm and we’ll go from there. To summarise: we meet at the Pearses at 26 Ranfurly this Friday at 6:30. For a ride, be at the uni chapel at 6:10 pm. Bring some food you have specially prepared and a gift. This should cost no more than $2 if you buy it new or you can just wrap up some object you have lying around the house that you feel sure the lucky recipient will be too polite to say is a piece of junk. And some less exciting but equally magnetic attractions (ie things to do). Our English discussion group on Thursday (12:00 pm, Drop-In Centre in the chapel) will be talking about manners and etiquette. These vary, depending on the culture and society. In many Western societies, these cultural observances have declined with the rise of feminism and egalitarianism but some relics remain. More traditional societies still observe them strictly. Our study in the life of Jesus takes place Thursday at 1:15 pm and we’ll be looking at the way God treats the self-righteous on the one hand and those who recognise they have made a thorough mess of their lives on the other.
