OK, friends, let’s do something about it. By the powers invested in me as Caretaker Pro Temp of the McCorkle Cemetery, I hereby nominate as Head of the Committee for the Restoration and Preservation of Lincoln County’s Ozark Trails Marker----our own Fred Bridge. Looking further down the road to the completion of the Committee’s work (the obelisk restored, fenced, and provided with a night light and Sheriff patrols), I foresee a time when we will have signs on the freeway directing tourists to the site. This promises to be a money-maker for the whole county, as the tourists (unable to find their way back to the freeway?) end up following the restored marker’s arrows pointing to Chandler and Davenport, where they will empty their pockets and flash their credit cards. That should put a new shine on Manvel Avenue and on the glazed bricks of Davenport’s Broadway.
