OK – I know you’ve all been wondering what my top 5 movies of 2014 were. Wonder no longer… MAPS TO THE STARS Julianne Moore goes all-out in this dark satire but the most disturbing character is 13 year old Bieber-brat Benjie who succumbs to psychosis on set of his $billion Hollywood franchise. All too beleibable. Pernicious, delicious and very funny. https://youtube/watch?v=fwxmnyoofPs GONE GIRL Another dark one. Fincher’s cynicism paired with a jet black story made this anti-date movie a real treat. Through the improbable twists and turns comes a clear message – marriage is murder! BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR Love, lust and the frustrations of youth brilliantly portrayed in this intimate epic. J’adore. IN A WORLD Shame I won’t get to see The Interview this year so this is my favourite comedy. Deftly pricking the balloon of chauvinism whilst also managing to be sweetly romantic. Oh, and it’s hilarious. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES My favourite current franchise delivered in spades. The brilliantly rendered simians actually make the human actors look a bit flat as they wrestle with each other and the morality of war. Like a monkey Macbeth – entertaining and philosophical. No room for Her, Frozen, Pride or Nightcrawler. Argh! A terrific year. Tomorrow my top 5 tracks of the year. Exciting, eh?
