OKAY. How about it? Can we have a discussion on a topic MOST Christians do NOT want to discuss? I read a post on a Christian page. It was one of those posts that was taking to task Christians who refuse to take to task, fellow Christians who are caught up in sin. I am posting my comment below, with names edited out. I failed to bring about a discussion. Perhaps I will fare better here. My comment: Sin May we open a discussion on that? Yes, we recognize it as counter to the nature of God. However it is not counter to the nature of man. But just exactly what is sin? The New Testament translates the Greek word αμαρτία as sin. You can check the analytical Greek lexicon and it defines HAMARTIA as: contravention; transgression; invasion; offense; penal offence; breach of the law; infraction of the law; infringement of the law; transgression of the law; violation of the law; lapse; misdemeanor; infraction; violation; infringement; breach; desecration; evildoing. Yet literally it means to miss the mark. My point is this: Our sin natures have an area of weakness we all recognize as the source of the evil, despicable acts that common morality finds repugnant. However, from that same source is an area of strength which produces not only actions of common morality, but acts of piety, philanthropy, asceticism, and, lets just say it: self-righteousness. These things always get a pass from most Christians. The truth of the matter is that self-righteousness is equally repugnant to God. Since it is equally repugnant to God, why does no one ever bring that into consideration? Could it be that many Christians are so into their own self-righteousness, they would be convicting themselves to point it out to others? Be clear, I am not accusing either Xxxxx Xxxxxx or Xxxxxxx Xxxxx of being guilty of this. I am merely bringing it to the fore. Thoughts?
