ON SEPTEMBER 5 1987, the wrestling world lost one-time WWWF Tag Team Champion Scott Irwin, also known as Yukon Eric and The Super Destroyer at the age of 35. Irwin began his career in the Mid-Atlantic territory but was soon signed to the WWWF, where he competed as Yukon Eric, one half of The Yukon Lumberjacks. He and partner Pierre (portrayed by Zarinoff Lebeouf) defeated Dino Bravo and Dominic DeNucci in June 1978 to win the WWWF Tag Team Titles, but would lose them in November of that year to Tony Garea and Larry Zbyszko. The team split up following the defeat, with Irwin choosing to leave the promotion and Lebeouf choosing to retire. After a year-long hiatus, Irwin returned to wrestling, working as ‘Thor the Viking’ in Florida. He soon dropped the character in favor of his Super Destroyer persona, a gimmick that he also took to Mid-South and Georgia, where his real-life brother Bill would join him in a tag team. The pair competed all across the southern states as The Super Destroyers, winning a total of 6 tag team titles, including one in Canada. The pair were unmasked by King Parsons and Buck Zumhofe in 1984 after which they became ‘The Long Riders’ and continued to compete across the southern USA, most notably for the AWA. Irwin developed a brain tumor in early 1987, from which he would never recover. ( REST IN PEACE)
