ON THIS DAY - September 10, 1943 EAST MALVERN Boys May Face Charge Of Murder John Biencourt, 46, a garage proprietor of East Malvern, was fatally wounded in an exchange of shots with two intruders, believed to be boys aged 15 and 10 years, respectively, whom he surprised on his premises early today. The boys were later charged with murder and remanded to appear next Thursday at the Childrens Court. Biencourt lived with his wife and 14 years old son at the back of the garage in Burke Road. Shortly after 4 am. today, Mrs. Biencourt was awakened by a noise in the garage. Seeing a torch flashing in the office, she awakened her husband, who went to investigate. Mrs. Biencourt and her son followed in time to see a youth wearing a leather overcoat rush towards her husband, who fired a shot. Another shot was heard simultaneously and Beincourt dropped to the floor. Seeing the second boy run from behind a partition into Burke Road, Mrs. Biencourt chased him for 100 yards. Later the police visited a nearby house and found two boys in bed. One had a wound in the wrist. A leather overcoat, with a bullet hole in the left sleeve and a pistol, which the detectives claim had been stolen from a nearby branch of the State Savings Bank, was also found. Both boys were wearing clothes allegedly stolen from a mercery store.
