ONLINE POETRY COMPOSITION for the week of September 14 With E.J.’s marvelous didge work, this is a wonderful time of healing in the PVA. So healing is an ideal theme for the poets to explore and uncover some of it’s magic and significance in our lives. Theme: Healing “Poetry heals the wounds inflicted by reason.” ― Novalis “As soon as healing takes place, go out and heal somebody else.” ― Maya Angelou This week we will work with a painting by the Bulgarian artist Julia Stankova entitled “The Healing of the Man with the Unclean Spirit.” Study the painting and write a poem inspired by what you discovered in your confrontation or engagement with this image. Everyone is welcome to participate. Poems of any and all varieties are welcome. When you have finished your poem, post it in the comment section below or clearly posted in the Prosperity Poet’s FB page as an online composition entry. First relax your body and get into a receptive state. Gently place your attention on the image and allow whatever arises (sensations, emotions, or thoughts) to come to the surface. Try to observe these reactions to the image as objectively and impartially as possible without succumbing to either like or dislike, good or bad, acceptable or unacceptable. If you can really abandon yourself to this exercise, you might be able to peek behind the functions (sensation, emotion, and thought) and see the image as an essential reality. Write your poem about that. Another idea would be using the painting as a stimulus for dream incubation. Use the image to prompt a dream and write a poem about the dream. There are lots of places to learn dream incubation and one of the best is the Dreamweaving group in the PVA.
