OOU CRISIS: The Government should be more serious . I enjoyed the issue the Students Union President of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) presented while being interviewed on Channels this morning, it is a good fight and in good fate, but he should be more concrete and brilliant on the figures he gives. He was a bit confused on figures this morning. Effective figure-analysis is an important that can be used to conquer in a struggle of this nature and working on this shall help them to succeed in the struggle. I also reject in its entirety the claim of Mr. Governor that though he publicly promised a 60% reduction of tuition fee of the Students, and based on this, the second day, the then Government of Otunba Gbenga Daniel made a 50% reduction. Therefore because of this, he could only make the remaining 10% reduction. I see this as a totally cheap statement from our own Governor. While I agree that the tuition fee was increased by about 364% during the OGD regime and was later reduced by half during the same regime, it is unacceptable that the fee then was reduced because of a public promise made by someone and if at all it was because of that, why didnt Mr. Amosun go back before he emerged and declare a change in the amount earlier promised. His inability to do that has cost him. I want to wake one day and see that our politicians have changed. I want to see one day that they can now be held responsible for their words. I wish this good news can come as soon as possible. It appears somehow also to my ears that most of the meetings those students leaders have had with the Government were with the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Tola Banjo in one of the states legislative quarters. This is absurd. Transparency in government entails that the Governor must be accessible to his people. This is democracy. It is insane to think that it is too much for a Governor to have held meetings severally with these students, most importantly on the ongoing issue. Again, if truly Mr. Governor was in anyway initially serious about his promise, he should have done it immediately he assumed office. Fulfilling a promise after three years and close to the start of another campaign reflects much of his un-seriousness. How would he think the students will believe him again, when for all these while he had denied them of the fulfilment of his simple promise to them and again when he wanted to fulfil a part of it, he said it would take effect from the next session. Does that not appear like he is making another promise for him to be elected in another (next) election? I am of the opinion that he should be made to stand by his words and his policy should be pro-active from this session, since there is still a University which is in first semester of a new session. The demand of these students is not much to give. Students and their poor parents should not be taken responsible for the irresponsibility of any past government or even the incumbent. Barrister Segun Odubela, the commissioner for Education must also be cautioned. His several abuse on the protesting students do not speak well of him, particularly of his profession. The Legal profession is a Gentle-man profession. Saying the students are mischievous means he has another definition for Mischief. Governance must be a continuum and the interest of everyone in the state, including the mad-man on the street must be protected. Ogun state belongs to all and Government house is like a Barrack...Soldier go, Soldier come. **Peace** Ghandi Kenny OKUNUGA
