Lina Tharsing’s most recent works, painted from archival photographs taken at the American Museum of Natural History, seek a precise moment in both time and space when the lines of fiction and reality intersect. These paintings are not simply simulacra of another experience. Rather, in her novel recreations, Tharsing conjures new worlds and a new understanding of our relationship to the natural world and to narrative. Lina Tharsing is a Kentucky-based artist whose work has been shown across the Southeastern United States. In 2012, she was named a superstar of Southern art by Oxford American. Her most recent shows have been: Natural History at Institute 193 in Lexington, Kentucky, and Natural History II at Conduit Gallery in Dallas, Texas. She has been featured in Whitehot Magazine and RadioLab’s blog and on BurnAway!
