RECRUITMENT/POSITION INFORMATION This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List to fill County of Orange vacancies in this class until the next recruitment. Plumbers are utilized by John Wayne Airport, OC Public Works, and the Sheriffs Department. The immediate vacancy is within the Sheriffs Department, specifically in the Sheriffs Facilities Operations. John Wayne Airport OC Public Works Sheriffs Dept Work Schedule: Some positions in this job classification may be assigned to work schedules that include weekends, evening shift, or night shift and may be assigned to work in a correctional facility. Night shift or evening shift differential is paid in addition to hourly salary as listed. An employee who is regularly assigned to a correctional facility shall be paid an additional amount per hour for hours worked. The Immediate Vacancy Facilities Operations, a unit of the Orange County Sheriffs Department, has an exciting opportunity working as a Plumber within their division. General duties of a Plumber include performing journey level work related to installing, maintaining and repairing plumbing systems and steam piping including controls and safety devices. Incumbents may be assigned to work in any of the following: Jail Facilities, Forensics/Coroners Facilities, remote communication sites and business Offices within Orange County. Some assignments may require weekends or evening shift work. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS To be selected for a position with the Orange County Sheriffs Department applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner. Background screening includes completing of a Personal History Form, interview with a background investigator, fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions, traffic violations, drug use and credit problems, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts. Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Services (N.A.C.E.S.). LICENSE REQUIRED Possession of a valid California Drivers License Class C or higher by date of appointment. A Certified Backflow Prevention Tester License is preferred, but is not required. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: Will possess considerable experience and training in the areas listed below. TRADE EXPERIENCE Experience and knowledge of: Principles, practices and methods of the plumbing and steam fitting trades Tools and equipment used in the plumbing and steam fitting trades Procedures and equipment used to inspect and test safety devices used on plumbing and steam systems Performing journey level plumbing and steam fitting installation, maintenance and repair work Building and safety codes Steam traps, condensate, receivers and piping Sewer and water pumps ANALYTICAL THINKING Proven Ability to: Read and work from blueprints, schematics, sketches and piping diagrams Perform preventative maintenance on various equipment Follow oral and written instructions Effectively communicate and convey ideas to others both orally and in writing Supervise the work of others Please click here for more detailed minimum qualifications.
