OREGON AND NORTHWESTERN NEVADA FIRE UPDATE: ALL good news today. Progress has been made on all the remaining large fires. OREGON - FERGUSON FIRE: Klamath County, near Beatty. Cause under investigation. Type III interagency team in command of the fire. 200 acres, 50 percent contained. The fire is burning in timber and grassland on private property. Minimal fire activity overall with some interior torching. Two structures have been lost to the fire, and 6 structures remain at risk. A task force of engines from Klamath County fire departments have been deployed for structural protection, but they will be headed home at the end of the shift today. Fire fighters made excellent progress yesterday. The fire is now 100 percent lined and the goal will be strengthening those lines today. Mop up has begun in some sections of the fire. A full mix of resources including hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers and helicopters will be working the fire. Total personnel - 225 LOGGING UNIT COMPLEX: Warm Springs Reservation in Central Oregon. Lightning caused. The complex is under command of an Interagency Type I IMT. 10,480 acres, 80 percent contained. The complex is burning in timber. Minimal fire behavior. The recent rains along with the arrival of more ground resources has won the momentum here. Crews have made excellent progress and this complex looks to be well in hand now. Resources are being released from the complex. The Air National Guard Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters assisting with the complex will be released at end of the shift today. Full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, and helicopters fighting the fire. Total personnel - 1303 OCHOCO COMPLEX: Crook County, near Post. Lightning caused. A national type II IMT has command of the complex. 10,004 acres, 79 percent containment for the complex. Minimal fire behavior yesterday. There are 4 fires in the complex. The Fox Fire is the most active fire and the one with the least amount of containment. The rains and change in conditions have given crews the upper hand. Expect this complex to be wrapped up by Monday. Resources are being released from the complex. Full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, and helicopters fighting the fires of the complex. Total personnel - 511 KITTEN COMPLEX: Malheur County. Lightning caused. A national type I IMT has command of the complex. 22,685 acres, 45 percent contained. This complex is made up of 4 fires total. The Brogan Hill Fire, the Stemler Fire, the Kitten Canyon Fire, and the Juniper Fire. The fires are burning mostly in grasslands which can lead to rapid rates of spread. Minimal fire behavior was seen for the most part with some increased activity on the northwest section of the Stemler Fire, and in a couple of juniper filled draws on the Kitten Canyon Fire. Resources and command are also in charge of finishing mopping up the Eastern half of the nearby Buzzard Complex. Additional resources have been arriving steadily. Fire fighters have done a great job getting the momentum of the fires stopped. They will work today to take out the remaining hot spots that could threaten the lines that have been established around the fires. A full resource mix of hand crews, engines, water tenders, bulldozers, helicopters, and air tankers are fighting the fires in the complex. Total personnel - 822 RYE VALLEY FIRE FINAL REPORT: Baker County near Huntington. Lightning caused. An Oregon interagency type II IMT led by Dan Thorpe from the Central Point office of ODF was in command of the fire. 1392 acres, 75 percent contained. Minimal fire behavior was seen yesterday. Command was transferred back to the local unit this morning. All areas of the fire are in mop up mode now. NORTHWESTERN NEVADA - MALT FIRE FINAL REPORT: The Malt Fire started in Northwestern Nevada just below the Oregon State line and about 20 miles from the California border. It has now burned into Oregon on the Lakeview BLM district. Lightning caused. BLM has command of the fire being manged out of the Lakeview Office. 1054 acres, 96 percent contained. Fire is burning grass, sagebrush, and junipers. Minimal fire behavior yesterday. Crews made excellent progress on the fire yesterday getting it 100 percent lined. They moved into mop up and that will continue today. All initial attack resources from this fire have been released and the resources on scene will be used for new fire starts is they happen in the area.
