OTIS UPDATE! I have been holding alot of stuff in , in terms of FB. ( No , not just work related stuff lol Christine Neves !!!!!) But in terms of Otis lately. And many of you have been asking how he was. Every time I went to write an update I would wilt...and say, wait another day, maybe things will improve . First, to cut to the chase, they HAVE and he is doing SUPER again. PHEWWWW! But it has been...well, over two months of kind of agony for me. It all started when Petunia was in heat. being an intact super stud like he apparently IS, he was totally a mess during the heat. Lost weight, frantic, barking pacing , not eating , humping humping and licking etc. So, after the heat I planned to take the risk to neuter him ( at his age with his underlying disease, not a great option). Remember if you will, the day of his surgery he did not pass his pre bloodowrk, which revealed mild renal disease. Pretty damn bummed about that at the time. But he was acting great and all seeemed good, and the heat was over. Well, kind of instantly, as if he read his own bloodwork...his appetite went totally downhill. I mean, from voracious to unable to get him to eat warmed human food, meats, etc.... this happened and he began to drop more weight of course. Still not acting ill. No vomit or lethargy etc. Rechecked his blood, his kidneys were a smidge worse but still mild. The other thing he was doing was beginning to ramp up with the humping and Petunia loving again!! This time she was starting to get annoyed, and started spending alot of time trying to escape him. He became more and more obsessed, less and less eating, more weight losing, threw up a few times...looking absoultely skeletal and killing me. I will insert here, that I have become surprisingly attached to him. I have never had a mini aka pocket mastiff. LOL. He is really a dream dog, a one in a million, heart dog. Sooooo.... the last two months or more have been filled with alot of vet visits, lots of bloodwork and needles, many many trips to the store ( daily, sometimes twice daily) to try to pick something he would like...eat for a day, then never again...sighh etc etc... worry, tears, frustration etc etc. and always the dread of the kidneys sitting there either worsening or biding their time to worsen. lol Lo and behold I come home one particular day to find a huge urine accident left by one of my big girls. The next day I ran urines on them and found two of them ( One was Petunia!) to have very active UTIs! So began treating them and it was like a light switch being thrown, for Otis. Apparently he is one of those UTI identifiers...many of you have them too. Potamus is so dour and clueless he has never done such things. But Otis ....is different! lol He began eating with GUSTO two days into treatment of the girls, and went totally back onto dog food...first canned and now canned and dry....devouring everything and back to his normal , mommy loving personality. Petunia and I are SOOO relieved!!!!!
