OUR CAROLINA SHEPHERD Tysons Story In May 2013, Tyson was saved from a certain destiny by Howard at a high kill shelter...Tyson was a K9 police dog in the state of SC..He was very abused by his law enforcement owner because Tyson had been chasing and killing the small live stock...He was beaten with metal pipes, bats and whatever to stop him from chasing these little animals...He was also tied up at his first home because all his teeth are filed down probably from chewing on chains..When Tyson was finally brought to the kill shelter, the officer that brought him told them if they did not take him then he was going to shoot him in the parking lot..Howard was contacted and immediately went to go pick him up..When Howard got to the shelter, Tyson was about 30 pounds under weight, missing fur on his ears and tail and deathly afraid..This poor boy had gone through some terrible abuse..As time had passed, Tyson was gaining weight and looking alot better but still scared to death of everything..A few months later, I had taken Tyson into my home and started to create a bond with him..I had a house divided because Harley was the king of the castle and I was worried that Harley would hurt him because of his alpha dominance..Slowly I introduced them for minutes at a time, day by day and Howards help..Before I knew it they had become friends with an awesome bond..Then Tyson had a Grand Mal Seizure and I thought he was dead..he was unresponsive for hours but still breathing..I brought him to the vet and slowly he started to come back to normal..For months he never had another seizure until one weekend he had 12 of them in 2 days..Back to the vet and a prescription of Phenobarbital, he has been seizure free..It is a med that he will have to take for the rest of his life..I do believe that Tyson does have brain damage from his severe abuse and perhaps his seizures..He does not play, he does not know any basic commands, he does not always remember to use the potty outside, he almost always has a blank look on his face.. He has severe separation anxiety..He goes crazy when anyone walks out the door even if its just to step out for a minute.I feel a sense of confidence when he seeks my comfort during thunderstorms and things that scare him....I could probably write a book about Tysons trials and tribulations of every day life because every day is a different experience.I know he will always be lost in his own little troubled world but he has captured my heart and I will always love him for his good times and the bad times..God only knows how hard Ive tried to bring a smile to this little boys face and with lots of love, patience and hard work he has started to shine..I am in this for the long term and until death do us part.
