OUR HISTORY MATTERS! The Importance of History (when we forgot our history, we forgot our God and will after a foreign god “If we don’t know our history, then we don’t know where we come from. “we would be like a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree. ” So history matters, but what is history? “History is a story about the past that is significant and true.” History, by its very nature, does more than tell us about the past. But Provides our Identity. Another importance of history is that it enables one to grasp one’s relationship with their past. For example: When you go into a doctor’s office for the first time, you invariably have to fill out an information sheet that asks about your medical history. The doctor is trying to construct an accurate picture of your state of health. Your health is heavily influenced by the past. Your heredity, past behaviors, past experiences are all important determinants and clues to your present condition. Whenever you return to the doctor, he or she pulls out a file which contains all the notes from past visits. This file is a history of your health, the Doctor can determine how to deal with you for the better. Doctors understand very clearly that history matters.
