FAITH IS SOMETHING YOU DO “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the proving of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 Faith is a substance, meaning it is concrete, tangible – not abstract. It is something you hold on to. It is seeing and holding onto what God says. Faith gives you an owner’s disposition before you take a physical delivery of what you are expecting. With faith you are not circumscribed to the physical. You don’t see impossibilities. You know, like St Teresa of Avila, that with God nothing is impossible. The great St Teresa of Avila, who accomplished great things with little means, once wanted to build a large orphanage. She had only three shillings to start with. Some friends told her that she should be more prudent and wait for more funds before beginning the construction. This is the faith-packed answer Teresa gave: “With three shillings Teresa can do nothing; but with God and three shillings, there is nothing that Teresa cannot do.” Faith will inject into you the kind of courage that it injected into St Martin of Tours. While sill a young man, St Martin of Tours was traveling over the Alps when he fell in with some robbers. One of the robbers held a sword over Martin’s head and was about to kill him. But another robber stopped him; for he was impressed by the calm and courage of the victim. When the robbers asked him why he was unafraid while a sword hung over his head, St Martin replied that God watched over him in life and death. The robbers got converted. LET’S PRAY: O God confirm your words concerning me as I step out in faith henceforth in all my affairs. SUCCESS ACTIVITY: Write down 10 promises of God concerning you that you can remember. Make a commitment to believe and act on them totally form today.
