OWFW, what have we done in our year or so of existence? What are we? So many things. We sit with each other through storms, literal and figurative. We have promoted fund raisers for the sick, gathered clothes for the homeless, promoted heroin awareness, and motorcycle rides for fallen heroes. We spread the word if you need a job, or if you have a position to fill. We recommend doctors to each others, and caregivers, and dog walkers. We support local business, and music, and parties. We fill food pantries, and diaper banks, and school supplies. We decorate Wauconda, and volunteer in Wauconda, and celebrate in Wauconda. We have found lost dogs, and cats, and possibly, even helped to find a daughter. We share pictures, of sunsets, and storms, and restaurant meals, and smiles. Yet, we ARE a self-proclaimed political page. We are dedicated to civic involvement and government oversight. We spread the word on what is happening and we give opinions and back them up with FACT. We promote letter writing, and meeting attendance, and we tape and or live stream all Village meetings so that true representative government can happen in our community. In the meantime, we have grown to OVER 1600 strong. Do we all agree all the time? Do we gripe and snipe and argue at times? Yes, but so do families. We are WE-conda. We are OF Wauconda, and we are FOR Wauconda. But we are NOT a Hate Site as the Mayor has so smugly Christened us. I will admit to being at times a Strong dislike site. Right now, I strongly dislike that the Mayor does not admit defeat in the face of a pet project that is not going forward - and feels he needs to once again use OWFW as a scape goat.
