OYE VEHHHH .... FB ..... GUYS n DOLLS .... Lets Follow A New Raasta!! I first visited RAASTA, HauzKhas Village about 18 months back and met Goumtesh Singh (one of the owners) through a common friend Juni Kohli ... I was immensely impressed by the sheer vibe of the place and decided to do a Review ... the abiding memory of which will always remain for me a Friendship which originated on that memorable day with a Young Lady ... From that point on Joy (Goumtesh) & I kept in Hi-Hello touch and though I am a tad too old to be a regular at RAASTA, whenever I visited I was always happy to see the place buzzing with life. So when Sonali Sokhal wrote me to say that Raasta Gurgaon was launching I was really happy and attended the Launch Party (along with 500 others - hahahaha) which I thoroughly enjoyed ... now, to that point I knew Joy and was vaguely aware of Rahul Karan Kundan, but I did not know Arjun Toor at all, nor was I aware of his background in Hospitality.. When I did get to know all three of them, the following Interview took place: ME: How did the three of you meet and how did the idea of RAASTA come about? RAASTA: Rahul and Joy, both being from Jammu, are like family, from childhood. Both being Raastfari followers, and music lovers, they saw an opportunity in creating a music place, in Delhi, where various Reggae Artists could come and create a Fresh New Vibe - thats how Raasta happened. They chose Arjun as their Consultant and the connection started ME: How difficult (or easy) has it been to promote Reggae Music in Delhi NCR? RAASTA: When we set out the main aim was to promote Reggae as a Free Culture and Alternate Music. We did quite a few Events with International Artists and ... well ... it worked ... people liked it. ME: In most Entertainment Hang-Outs the Focus is on the Booze and the Finger Food is just about tolerable - How come the situation is far better at RAASTA? RAASTA: Great Food is something all three of us love and are passionate about. The personal involvement has helped in the creation of our World Cuisine Menu, with the special emphasis on Caribbean Cuisine... ME: While RAASTA, HKV, has its daytime business limitations, your new unit at DLF CyberHub (which is going from strength to strength) has the potential to be a Day Long Earner - Any Special Promotions? RAASTA: Yes ... the Hub is a great catchment for corporates and to especially cater to them, at Lunch Time, we have ONE POT MEALS, which are on the Table within seven minutes - these MEALS IN A BOWL are available in European, Caribbean, Pan Asian and Indian Flavors and priced very attractively -- are proving to be a great hit. ME: Define the ESSENCE / SPIRIT of RAASTA? RAASTA:: Reggae Is For Soul ... Everybody finds their peace in some kind of Music. Reggae is what we find our place of Relaxation in ... From my point of view if a Entertainment Spot is both a Critical and a Commercial success then it is doing great and the normal shelf life of 3 - 4 years can extend ... RAASTA, HKV, certainly qualifies... What will be the situation at Cyber Hub where, funnily enough, DLF, though being very choosy in not encouraging DIRECT COMPETITION IN CUISINE, has gone in for a multiplicity of ENTERTAINMENT SPOTS?? Well ... for sure, we will know soon ... and rest assured YOU will read all about it Escapades Of A Foodie Surdie .... Wish you All The Best, Joy; Rahul; and Arjun. .... CHAK DE!!
