Obama, Obrezhnev. Thinking on the basis of what one actually knows - TopicsExpress

Obama, Obrezhnev. Thinking on the basis of what one actually knows or experienced is limiting, yet grounded. My maturation fell on the time of Brezhnev, back in the Soviet Union. And a leadership at the time of Brezhnev was not up to the task. They mere pragmatic and skillful party apparatchicks who actually didnt believe in socialism and other stuff themselves. They would celebrate October revolution, but already then the greatest achievement was to live in the west and have access to western chachkas. It looks to me now that the current US leadership doesnt actually believes in capitalism, either. Maybe some fringe element in Republican party does, but thats about it. Brezhnev media, rather than being straight and honest with Soviet population, would simply lie and deny. Even when it was not necessary. Rather than admitting some difficulties or setbacks and saying, yes, this is a set-back, but thats what we are trying to accomplish, so please, bear with us, they would simply deny the existence of any problem. The main party line at the time was: everything is to the best in our most glorious soviet motherland. But does the current western leadership acknowledges their militarism, their financial insolvency, their myopic foreign policy, their total alienation from common people? Not really. If we call Obama--Obrezhnev, maybe the puzzling things about current US stagnation will become clearer.
