Obamacare is the ultimate redistribution of income. Higher premiums for equal or worse coverage than you had before (not to mention much higher deductibles and out of pocket maximums). So, where does that extra money go? To pay for those who were uninsured. Government takes from those who can pay and gives to those who cannot - either in a cash payment (subsistence) or a benefit (Medicaid) In my families case, I was forced to enroll through the DC exchange. I basically have same plan through BC/BS that I had before - except now it costs more and also has a $6,000 annual deductible instead of the $2,500 deductible it had before. It sort of became a catastrophic plan because, unless we go to the hospital, we never will spend that much at the doctors. Our insurance will never kick in during a normal year - meaning that, in addition to our monthly premiums, we will outlay $6K before anything is paid from my expensive insurance policy. Also: the premium for my new plan costs me about $500 more each month than my old plan - meaning that I have worse insurance and $500 LESS in my paycheck to spend providing for my family. That amounts to a mortgage payment or car payment for many Americans. And this helps America How? Stats show that most Americans who have signed up ALREADY had insurance coverage - transferring to an Obamacare plan because either their insurance company dropped their plans or their employers made changes. The law requires enrollment or you are taxes more. In addition, Medicaid has seen increases - and this isnt free, folks, our tax dollars pay for Medicaid - meaning either taxes need to go up to pay for this expansion or fewer tax dollars will be available to spend on other, even truly Constitutional, government programs like defense. (Read more government borrowing here - since Congress and the President cant seem to address their addiction to spending money and buying constituencies). President Obama and Congresswoman Pelosi promised annual savings and that we could keep our plans if we liked them. They lied to the Americans they serve.
