Ocean carrier rate revision roundup for Oct. 3 Multiple container lines have planned general rate increases in numerous trade lanes in October and November, although any gains achieved could be temporary as overcapacity and sluggish global demand continue. Asia-Europe Maersk Line hopes to boost rates on shipments from Asia, excluding Japan, to the Mediterranean, excluding Syria, and North Europe by $450 per 20-foot container and $900 per 40-foot and 45-foot container, starting Oct. 15. Beginning Oct. 19, CMA CGM intends to raise rates on its trade from the Middle East to North Europe and the Baltic by $150 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot container. The carrier has also scheduled a rate hike on cargo from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to North Europe, Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, Baltic, Black Sea, Caribbean, North Africa, Central America and South America by $300 per 20-foot container and $500 per 40-foot container. This increase went into effect on Oct. 1. Trans-Atlantic CMA CGM hopes to increase rates on cargo from Europe to North America, which went into effect Oct. 1: For shipments from North Europe to the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts, the hike will be $300 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container. For shipments from North Europe to Mexico, the increase will be $200 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container. For shipments from North Europe to Canada, the hike will be $100 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot container. For shipments from the Mediterranean to the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts, the hike will be $250 per 20-foot container and $350 per 40-foot container. Trans-Pacific Effective Nov. 1, Evergreen Shipping Agency (America) Corp. aims to raise rates on its trade from the U.S. to the Far East: For shipments of waste paper, plastic scrap, metal scrap and hay loaded from Los Angeles, Long Beach or Oakland, California, and shipped to China, excluding Hong Kong, the hike will be $160 per 20-foot container and TEU, and $200 per 40-foot and 45-foot container and FEU. For all dry commodities shipped from the U.S. East Coast to China, excluding Hong Kong, the increase will be $160 per 20-foot container and TEU, and $200 per 40-foot and 45-foot container and FEU. Asia-Australasia U.S. Lines has scheduled a rate increase for all commodities and equipment types, excluding refrigerated cargo, from the U.S. to the South Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand, beginning Nov. 1: From the U.S. West Coast, the hike will be $80 per 20-foot container, $100 per 40-foot and 45-foot container. From the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts, the increase will be $160 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot and 45-foot container. On the same date, OOCL plans to hike rates on its trade from Southeast Asia to Australia by $100 per TEU and $200 per FEU. Asia-Africa CMA CGM hopes to hike rates on cargo from the United Arab Emirates to Longoni, Mayotte, an archipelago in the northern Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Southeast Africa, on its Midas loop by $250 per TEU.
