October 15, 2013 -- Canada Offers Condolences to People of the Philippines Following Earthquake Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement: “On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest sympathies to those who have lost loved ones or have otherwise been affected by the earthquake that struck the Philippines’ central Visayas region, including Bohol and Cebu. “Canada continues to closely monitor events in the region and stands ready to provide emergency consular assistance to Canadian citizens as required. “Canada stands in solidarity with the people of the Philippines during this difficult time.” Canadian citizens in the Philippines requiring emergency assistance should contact the Canadian embassy in Manila at (63-2) 857-9000 or 1-800-1-110-0226 (toll-free within the Philippines only using a landline). Friends and relatives in Canada concerned for Canadian citizens they believe to be in the affected area should contact Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada’s 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa by calling 613-996-8885 (collect calls are accepted where available) or 1-800-387-3124.
