October is Fire Prevention Month. Fire safety may not seem to affect us directly, but weve come a long way. Fire safety in buildings have not always been what it is today; but even so, every year fire deaths by the thousands still occur nationwide while escaping media attention. Below are videos that will help us better understand why new buildings today are as safe as they are, while understanding that many of which still violate codes and regulations, therefore posing a threat to human lives. Dont play with fire. 2.) Always know at least two exits, especially in a public assembly/gathering 3.) Designate a place/landmark to meet up away from the fire 4.) Make sure fire alarms are inspected annually. 5.) Stay low to the ground in a fire 6.) If escape is not possible, keep smoke out of enclosure with damp towels in between cracks/door sills where smoke can get in. Closing doors will buy you time. 7.) Space heaters. With winter approaching, use of space heaters are common. Make sure your space heater is clear of combustible materials. While some heaters come equipped with a failsafe switch in case of a knock over, some heaters do not offer this feature. 8.) and lastly, Dont be an idiot (not applicable for certain individuals) there are many more great fire safety/prevention tips out there feel free to comment and add to the list!
