In the darkroom, student lab techs mix film and paper processing chemicals, repair and maintain equipment, and assist students with work when needed. In the computer lab, lab techs assist students with various digital equipment and software troubleshooting and work to maintain printers and computers. What do student employees add to the department? -Student employees help to create an energetic, fun and accepting environment in the Photo Labs. Lab Techs pride themselves on making students feel comfortable coming in during open lab hours to receive peer guidance and engage in critical dialog about their work. Every member of the photography department works hard to make it an inspiring and productive place to create art. What do you enjoy most about working with students? -It is wonderful to come into work every day to unbridled, energetic and passionate students that want to work diligently at perfecting their craft. Having the opportunity to interact with the thoughtful and creative people that are here, and to regularly discuss art with them, is a real pleasure. The Photography Department, as well as the entire school, is a very close-knit and family-like community – we care deeply about this community and strive every day to keep it a challenging, inspiring and fun place to work, study and interact. Additional thoughts? -The Lab Techs work hard to maintain the open and welcoming environment in the Photography Labs; employees and students work hard at preserving this environment because this mentality is important to the entire community. It is also important to them to have an open dialogue about their art amongst all four levels of education. The open lab times allow for the mixture of grade levels and the swapping of knowledge throughout the department.
