Of course results of Jammu and Kashmir have been historical in many ways. First, BJP emerged as the second largest party in the state, and next, and more shockingly, it failed to win even one seat in Kashmir valley and Ladakh region though the Center government had done everything possible during recent floods there. What has emerged now is that BJP is in the position of kingmaker and both PDP and NC seem to be interested in joining hands with BJP. The situation is very tricky. Mandate is against NCs corrupt government and joining hands with them would mean not respecting it. On the other hand, PDP can best be described as a soft separatist party which is against the extreme nationalist character of BJP. Joining hands with them would mean compromising with the basic ideology. At the same time, the nation cant afford Delhi like situation where the state is without a democratically elected government for almost a year. It would really be interesting to see which side the stone turns to. One thing which is clear is that BJP is going to be the part of next government in J&K. And, the politics of the state has changed for ever.
