Official Statement from Azalea City Cat Coalition: It is with the utmost sadness that this post is made. These are the facts surrounding this horrible tragedy. We are issuing this statement to provide appropriate information to all our members and supporters. Sometime over the last week a (now former) volunteer and foster home that housed 11 of our Trailer Cats from the 2009 rescue, took it upon herself to Euthanize (kill) all 11 of our healthy cats! Ernestine Joyner took each cat to Dr. Gaston at Skyline Animal Clinic on Highway 90 in Mobile, AL, without our permission or knowledge. When we attempted to check on the cats yesterday, Ernestine refused to allow access and called the Police, forbidding us to come on her property. She made a statement that it was her right to euthanize them. We also called Police for assistance it was too late!! I went to Skyline Animal Clinic to speak with Dr. Gaston to inquire why he would Euthanize 11 cats that had no medical records at his clinic and were all healthy, ear tipped, adoptable and spayed or neutered. Dr. Gaston had prior knowledge that these cats were being fostered for Azalea City Cat Coalition and never contacted us. His reply was Ernestine told him she had this all worked out! We expect that she also euthanized her other personal pets as well. This senseless act goes against every grain of our mission statement and all animal welfare policies that we strive so hard to uphold!! I hope their little soles are resting peacefully, they did not deserve this, nor could they ask for help!!! I will post some of the pictures of them seperately! Such a void in our hearts and soles.
