Ogun Crusaders wrote: OGUN 2015: YEWA/AWORI GOVERNORSHIP QUEST, AN ASSESSMENT. By: Seun Shodeinde. The perennial agitation of people of Ogun West Region of Ogun State comprises of Yewa and Awori people to govern the state since its creation cannot under any guise be seen as immoral neither can it be viewed as being self-centred by any fair minded individual in the state. It can also not be described as selfish by any of the other region in the Ogun State project, especially going by the historical antecedents of WHO gets WHAT, WHEN and HOW since the inception of the state in February 1976. The agitation has reached another all time high. Every effort to write the wrong of the past must be appreciated and supported to the latter. While the various political parties in the State have since commence serious political engineering to be in the good book of citizenry through various means, nothing is been left to chance. Aspirants for the various post in the different political parties are also not resting on their oars. The APC which is the ruling party in the state will have no problem in the choice of its governoship candidate. Governor Amosun is home and dry in that regards. As at now, there is no Yewa/Awori son vying for the governorship flag of the Chief Olusegun Osoba led Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the State. The People Democratic Party(PDP) which present the greatest hope for an Yewa/ Aworiman to become Governor in 2015 is the leading opposition party and parades about 10 governorship aspirants 3 of which are from Yewa/ Awori extraction. No one should be in doubt about the quality of the personalities that have so far signify their intention to fly the flag of the party. They are Omoba Segun Adewale, Prince Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka and Hon Abiodun Akinlade a present member of House of Representatives. But just as the legendary English legal luminary, Lord Dennings asserted that, you cannot place something on nothing and expect it to stay! Thus who is the real bastion of hope for Yewa/Aworiland? Who among the trio in the PDP can we pin our collective hope without any sentiment? Who has the pedigree and wherewithal to pursue this long awaiting dream to a logical conclusion. Million dollar question no doubt. Meanwhile, Omoba Segun Adewale has been running his private advertising agency until recently when he joined the murky water of politics and signified his intention to contest for Ogun West Senatorial seat. But within a twinkle of an eye, he upgraded his aspiration to that of governorship. There is nothing bad about that as long as its for good intention without any ulterior motive to scuttle the collective aspiration of the whole race of a people. It must be noted however, that Omoba Segun Adewale had never contested for any election neither had he hold any political office before now. That could actually be a great minus considering the shortness of time and the peculiar situation of the Yewa/Awori land. Placing our collection hope on Omoba Segun Adewale might not be a good political decision for us at auspicious point in time, perhaps it can be another disaster in-waiting. Prince Gboyega Isiaka is a prodigy and investment expert. He said to be a first class brain, at least academically. He was the MD of Gateway Holdings under Otunba Gbenga Daniel led administration. He was said to have increased the investment portfolio of the state during his stint. Though the present government is not ready to hear any of that as question is always been raised to cast doubt on the purported great feat every now and then, may be for politically motivated reason by the way. At the political level, he has never won any election, though contested as the Governorship of Peoples Party Of Nigeria(PPN) in the last election but lost. Not until recently he said to be a protege of Otunba Gbenga Daniel. But now things are longer the same as he might have decided to chart his own political course of life. GNI as fondly called cannot boast of any identifiable political structure of his own out side that of OGD. That could be one of his albatross couple with the fact he might not have the necessary war chest to prosecute the governorship project. Hon Abiodun Akinlade is another capable and dependable personality that can be banked on not just because he is from Yewa/ Aworiland but because he has what it take to compete against any of the other aspirants from other part of the state. He was also in the private sector where we were told he rose to the pinnacle of his establishment as the General Manager. Upon enlisting into the unpredictable political turf, he was elected into the Federal House of Representatives in 2003, 2007 and 2011. He has been the chairman House Committee on Science and Technology since 2008. When he it comes to political experience he is actually not in short of it by all standard. In term of performance and achievements, he has really done well for himself and the people he represent as a lot of people has always spoke glowingly about his giant strides. A professor of note was once quoted to have said that had it been that those who have been holding position of authority in Yewa/ Aworiland has been doing half of Hon Akinlade has done, all the hues and cry of marginalisation of the region might have arose in the first place. With Hon Akinlade experience as Chairman House Committee on Science and Technology, he wont be alien on how Ministries and Departmental Agencies works in the government. His network and connection would have also been boasted which can also be of a tremendous advantage to the state at long run. Besides, PDP and Ogun state would not be doing anything new if somebody like Hon Akinlade is elected as governor. Governor Gabriel Suswam was a two term House Of Representatives member from 1999 to 2007 before becoming governor. He has performed creditably well in office. Governor Yari of Zamfara state was also in the House before he emerged governor against all odds and has since being doing well. Ogun State actually need a governor that will hit the ground running upon assumption of office not trial and error governor who will begin to learn on the job, at least to demonstrate to the people of Ogun State that we have what it take to take the State a higher height. However, its high time we all come together; the old and young with the common goal- how to win the governorship seat for the very first time in history. And who ever emerged victorious should be magnanimous enough to accommodate others while those who might lost out should be gallant enough to work hard to bring the dream of our fathers to reality come 2015.
