Ogun Crusaders wrote: OGUN WEST AND THE BURDEN OF OGD. The name Otunba Olugbenga Justus Daniel popularly refers to as OGD means different thing to different people. To some, they love to hate him. To others, he is their messiah. But hate him or love him, there is something special and distinct about OGD. That he enjoys a special grace should not be contested. That he is brilliant is unarguable. That he is endowed is also not in doubt. That he is influential is uncontestable. That he is favoured cannot be denied. At a time before the advent of OGD into the mucky water of politics, He was even named among 100 most influential Nigerians. OGD is really a man of high status and affluence; Sharp, witty, intelligent, he even has good analytical skills that can match that of anybody around the world. When OGD took a delve into the political arena, he was an instant hit because he came well prepared. Despite all the political topsy-turvy that he is always associated with political contest, he won the 2003 governorship election. During the period 2003-2007, OGD was a performer per excellence. His style of administration was a reference point. Again, in 2007, against all odd, he retained his seat as the governor of Ogun State. But between 2007-2011, the people of Ogun State saw another Gbenga Daniel entirely-Maybe the real OGD by the way-. At this point in time, Ziggy was imported into the political lexicon of Ogun State. OGD then put on the toga of a war monger. He then referred to himself as the Lion of the West. He was always ready to engage in battle against real or imaginary enemies. He fought to a standstill both internal and external opposition dissipating energy and financial resources of the state into fighting battles rather than governance and how to improve the lives of the people. He became a cantankerous personality running Ogun State like a private fiefdom without an Assembly when he engineered 9 members to impeach 15. OGD became tyrannical in his styles of administration. He did all he could to install a successor but all to no avail. He fought tooth and nail (at least on the surface) to ensure an Ogun West man succeeds him. But Alas, It was never meant to be. The rest as they say is now in the realm of history. But now as the 2015 governorship election approaches, the people of Ogun West should be duty bound to access the place of OGD in their political life. Is OGD really a believer, a burden, a curse or a blessing to aspiration of Ogun West ? Is he really a liability or an asset to Ogun West Agenda ? It surely depends on who is assessing. But if the recent happenings, events, and body language of OGD is anything to go by, then the people of Ogun West needs to look into the direction of almighty God as their messiah and not the likes of OGD. The body language of OGD couple with the historical uneventful display of OGD in 2011 is back on stage. In 2011, OGD encouraged a lot of aspirants from Ogun West to declare their interest for the governorship race. He deliberately set up brothers against brothers, an episode that showcase and portray the people of Ogun West as unserious. OGD was busy mouthing GNI while at the same time discreetly working for the emergence of Isiaka Kunle Salako. At least he confided in some selected elders (anybody who is in doubt can ask Sina Kawonise for his experience on Deputy Governorship before he finally lost it to Jokotade). The leaders of Ogun West played a fast one on OGD by adopting GNI and OGD has to eventually fall in line. That was the beginning of the failure of Ogun West Agenda because Daniels eventually paid a lip service to it. When the Issue became that of GNI and Gen. Olurin, OGD deliberately failed to persuade his so- called anointed candidate to step down even for the sake of the paramount interest of Ogun West. If GNI, Olurin, OGD, OBJ and the rest of them had worked together and truthfully on Ogun West Agenda, surely the story would have been different today. Forget about the simple arithmetic of adding Olurin and GNI votes and up to that of Amosun, It goes beyond all that. Having said all that, Ogun West should begin to look inward and concertedly too not rest all their hopes and aspiration on OGD shenanigans because a stich in time saves nine. May God help them!
