Oh! Lal pattu ... by none other than Noor jahan. Not filmed and recorded through any advanced digital device. Most probably, the last public (Appears a special private at Dubai as Late Noor Jahan takes out an all rag looking lyric of this song). I first heard this song rendered by Ms. Noor Jahan in 1973 when she performed in Arya Mehr stadium where the then Shah of Iran Md. Reza Pehlavai was present. This song is sung in praise of a great Sufi saint who always wore red cloth. Hence is lallanu or laal. Lal also means child. The song is in Sindhi language which is spoken in Hindustani style and written in both in Devnagari and Urudu scripts. The saint was great and he emitted an aura of peace always. He preached (Not a preacher per se nor was he a demagogue) unity and peace. But as can be seen in this video, unfortunate some foxtrot like movements and some unidentifiable gyrations are being made. What astounds me is at that advanced age also Ms. Noor Jahan looks good ( of course with pancake make up) and her elaboration (Alap like ) as a suffix is so remarkable. The giants endowed with technical knowledge of Indian music would probably be able to identify whether this particular rendering is any raga based or not.
