Oh how I love Craigslist, and peoples tendency to sell a vehicle ridiculously cheap rather than pay a mechanic to fix it:-). And I love being a mechanic who can buy these vehicles and fix them. This is a 1994 4X4 3/4 Ton with leather seats, And its got the 6.5 liter Diesel engine which contrary to some peoples belief, really is an okay engine. I just would never recommend a non-mechanic to own one. Ha ha. But anyway, I spent a considerable amount of time searching craigslist for non running diesel. And once in a great while I come upon a deal like this and I had to jump on it. This thing was parked in someones back yard clear back is 2005. 9 years ago! When it was parked, it was only 11 years old. It is now 20 years old. Ha ha. They parked it because it did what many 6.5 chevy diesels do, and it started dying randomly as they were driving down the road. They took it to. Mechanic who charged them $2,000 to fix it, but when they left the shop and headed home, it had its problem again. They called the mechanic, he said another $2,000 to replace the injector pump. They said the heck with that! And since they had no idea how to fix it, they decided to just park it, and there it has sat for 9 years! So finally they decided to just sell it for scrap price. But the sad thing is, it most likely is only about a $50-$100 part that was causing it to intermittently die on them. NOT the injector pump like the mechanic told them. So part of me feels bad for taking advantage of the situation and getting a $5-$6,000 Suburban for only hundreds, but hey. But yeah. Within an hour of having it home, I had it running and driving around my driveway in it. Now its gonna take quite a bit of work to replace all the little stuff that went bad from sitting there half its life. Oil seals and rubber hoses and tires do not like to sit like that, and I still need to figure out for sure why it was dying randomly. But that should be pretty easy.
