Oh, my heart is breaking. I just got off the phone with our vet and he believes the situation for Dixie is much more dismal than we thought. While one of the ER vets thought there was a minor fracture, and another didnt think there was any fracture at all.... our vet believes there is quite a severe pelvic fracture up close to her spine.... and that she is in a LOT of pain. Further, he says if hes correct, this type of fracture will require rods & pins, and is beyond his abilities... meaning specialty hospital and several more thousands of dollars. He is going to do some more X-rays and try to ascertain more information, but I could tell from his tone that he doesnt think this is going to end well and hes mostly doing more diagnostics to help me feel better. I dont see how we can possibly afford the additional cost for surgery on her, and I fear we may have to let her go. I am so broken over this because honestly, I did NOT see this coming. I just knew in my heart that with all the love and support we have for her, she would be OK...... sometimes what I & we can do is just not enough......
