Oh, now this takes me back to our days in Aberdeen, Scotland! - TopicsExpress

Oh, now this takes me back to our days in Aberdeen, Scotland! Rumbledethumps, Skirlie, Clapshot, Cullen Skink, Cockaleekie Soup, and to start it all of a morning, a steaming hot cuppa tea and a Aberdeen Rowie, which is sort of a delicious free-form Croissant, reputedly created to replace hard tack in the fishermens sea rations, and as important a breakfast food in Scotland as Croissants are in France! Its frenchiness makes sense when you think that France was Scotlands partner in the Auld Alliance (old alliance), their pact of mutual support any time England was attacking the other. France, Holland and Denmark were closer to Scotland than most of England, as the roads were horrible, and ships were the way to travel! So, unbeknownst to most, Scottish Cooking has been greatly influenced by French Cooking through the centuries. Scottish architecture has been influenced by the Dutch, and vice versa. Scottish warriors have been mercenaries throughout Europe, and a great majority of city roads throughout Europe and England are paved with Scottish granite cobbles, which has made travel safer and more pleasant. Rock for Rowies? What a wonderful trade!
