Oh, what a night it was on Saturday at Rammelkamp Chapel on the campus of Illinois College!!! IC played host to a fundraiser organized by the Jacksonville Center for the Arts. The Stars in Our Sky artists, who volunteered their time for this special event, treated the audience to a superb evening of performances. Each guest artist had a connection to Jacksonville or a nearby community. Four Illinois College alumni took part: Soprano Mathilda Edge, Soprano Diane Dietz, Writer and Actor Jenny Sauer, and Organist Andrew Salyer --- so proud of them! IC Professor Garrett Allman and Terri Benz accompanied the vocalists and William Lane on the French Horn. Other artists who performed were Bass-Baritone Ryan Kuster, Dancer Laura Roth, and Soprano Karen Fergurson. The Grand Finale was The Impossible Dream led by Ryan Kuster, a native of Jacksonville who is gaining national recognition for his recent appearances as the toreador Escamiilo in Carmen with Virgnia Opera and Opera Colorado. The audience was on their feet at the end of the Grand Finale. All of these artists have reached for their dreams -- what a thrill to witness. My thanks to these talented artists and the Jacksonville Center for the Arts for making IC part of this inaugural event. I cant wait to attend again next year!
