WORK HISTORY November 2009 – present Park Manager, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Parks Australia, Yulara, NT As Park Manager, I am responsible for the delivery of plan of management outcomes in the complex cross cultural working environment of joint management with Traditional Owners. I work through a Board of Management, am responsible for over 30 staff, a budget in excess of $12 million, provision of essential services to the small community of Mutitjulu which is situated within the park boundaries, the provision of visitor experiences to over 250,000 people annually and natural and cultural resource management programs including supporting the maintenance of a living cultural landscape. I provide regulatory functions with regard to development in Mutitjulu and the park. Ihave developed sound working relationships with my Board members and other stakeholders, including relevant Indigenous organisations, both levels of government, land councils, tourism industry and community members to deliver outcomes identified by the Board of Management, whilstworking in line with the lease agreement, relevant legislation and cultural law.Key outcomes have included improving financial management of the budget to bring the park’s expenditure in line with a declining budget. Achieved by reviewing and reducing expenditure through realigning work programs and reducing staff numbers whilst beginning to diversify income streams. Delivering on plan of management outcomes and reporting those to the Board, ensuring policy and processes are in place to deliver outcomes, with a particular focus on health and safety.Oversight of capital works and asset management programs for park infrastructure, such as signage, roads, staff housing, and communication systems. Providing world class visitor experiences as demonstrated by the winning of the 2012 national tourism award. Providing oversight to the park’s natural and cultural management programs which include rare and threatened species management, weeds and fire and supporting Anangu traditional owners to maintain their culture and manage the cultural landscape. June 2007 – November 2009 Assistant Director, Community Partnerships Team, Australian Government Land and Coasts Division, DEWHA, Canberra Provided moderation support and advice in over 100 interviews during the recruitment process of the Caring for our Country Facilitator Network.Assisted in the organisation of the Water Watch community network national conference. Managed contracts, including negotiation of outcomes and ensured projects were completed on time for the Caring for Our Country program. Worked on the review of the first business plan for the Caring for our Country program and participated in stakeholder workshops collecting review information, with specific reference to community capacity building program and facilitator network. August 2005 – March 2006 Acting Manager Communication and Community Engagement, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Brisbane. Lead the team responsible for completion of the sign strategy, development of web interpretative material and graphic design projects for park interpretative materials. During this time I worked with senior management to improve team morale including relationships between central office and regional officers, negotiated resources to enable the team to meet deadlines and timeframes for completion of projects, identified priorities and managed work flows for staff, liaised with other government departments to achieve a whole of government approach to the production of a statewide brochure for QPWS. April 2002 – August 2005 District Manager, Longreach District, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Longreach, QLD. Managed Longreach District office and conservation areas in accordance with agency goals, relevant legislation, staffing and financial resources.Successfully administered the district’s $2 million budget, delivered asset management programs including capital works projects, promoted a safe work environment, managed staff living and working remotely, including implementing performance management processes. Provided leadership in the developing a new way of operating for District staff. Negotiated and liaised with internal and external stakeholders in regards to development of agreements and procurements in regard to national parks. 1997- April 2002 Manager (Cultural Heritage), Environmental Protection Agency, Rockhampton, QLD. Administered relevant legislation for the protection of cultural resources, including undertaking assessments of development applications and environmental impact statements, delivering grant funding outcomes, promoting community education programs by working with interested communities to protect and conserve cultural resources, supporting and training staff in Native Title processes. Negotiating, liaising and representing the organisation at high level meetings, community meetings, Traditional Owners and with internal stakeholders. I managed a small team, facilitating a team approach, providing direction, undertaking performance management. 1997 (7 months) Archaeologist, NSW Heritage Office, Sydney, NSW. Critically assessed cultural heritage reports for development applications to pave the way for liaising and negotiating with developers and cultural heritage practitioners with regard to their applications. 1994-1997 Archaeologist, Fiji Museum, Australian Volunteer Abroad, Suva, Fiji. In a cross-cultural environment, I worked with museum staff and relevant stakeholders to re-establish the Archaeology Department at the Fiji Museum and I played a major role in establishing an archaeology course at University of the South Pacific for South Pacific Islanders. My role included mentoring and coaching a female Fijian graduate trainee; preparing educational material for community education programs for Fijians;applying for project funding; and undertaking archaeological research projects and general research in the Fiji Islands. 1993 Conservation Officer (Heritage) Department of Environment and Heritage, Gladstone, QLD. Produced a cultural heritage management plan for the Curtis Coast (QLD). Working with a multidisciplinary team, I planned, managed and implemented a major cultural heritage project. The project required me to work with Traditional Owners, liaise with stakeholders, work within a budget, meet timeframes and prioritise workloads and write reports. 1991 - 1992 Project Archaeologist, Department of Parks, Wildlife and Heritage, Hobart, Tasmania. Production of reports on the archaeological resources of certain areas of Tasmania. To achieve the outcome I planned and implemented archaeological research projects; liaised with Traditional Owners, property owners and other relevant stakeholders; documented archaeological resources and producedreports on my findings. 1989 - 1991 Research Assistant -Victoria Archaeological Survey, Melbourne; Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority, Port Arthur, Tasmania; Uganda, Africa;Department of Parks, Wildlife and Heritage. Undertook archaeological research projects which included cataloguing finds, identifying bone fragments, report writing, data entry and systems administration.
