Oil marketing company Indian Oil Corporation on Monday slashed petrol prices by Rs.3.05 per litre but increased diesel prices by 50 paise. The changes in retail selling price exclude state levies. The new prices will come into effect from midnight October 1. Petrol prices were raised on September 14. The prices were cut after a fall in international crude oil prices from $117/ bbl to about $113/ bbl and appreciation of rupee against dollar from about Rs.66 to about Rs.63, said IOC in a statement. It also said the price of diesel was raised in pursuant to government order authorising oil marketing companies to hike retail selling price of the fuel within a small range every month until further orders.
