Ok. A little wee bit about the typical 71st pensioner . Heres one. Note the reference that he was at Briar Creek. Many 71st went to Canada where more reach needs to be done.Malcolm Mackenzie Major Peter [Patrick] Campells Company, Major Genl Thomas Stirling. Born in the parish of Ardchattan in or near Fort William in Argyll. Age 35 in 1790. A Labourer. Served 8 years. He has been in ???? of eleven engagements & skirmishes as appears by the annexed certificate. Finally wounded and taken prisoner at the seige of Y orktown in America, by which and bad health attended with spitting of blood and severe Rheumatic pains he is rendered unfit for further service Chelsea Hospital London 25th May 1790. signed D MacPherson, Capt & Col 3d Guards, formerly Major to the 71 st Regt & David Burns Surgeons mate Late 71 st Regt. Bearer Malcolm McKenzie served under my command which enables me to certify the above facts, and renew his discharge in consequence of having lost the original, owing to which circumstance together with health & poverty he could not come up sooner. That the bearers Malcolm Mckenzie and Niel Thomson served as privates in the 7l st Regt of Foot, and that faithfully & honestly for eight years as ? discharge has been in an engagement upon the coast of Boston before landing in America after which stood an engagement or Battle with rest of His Majestys Army in Long Island, another at York Island, one at Brandy Wyne creek being also at the taking ofWillmington, Philadelphia, Savarmah town, at the battle of Briers Creek, the siege of Savannah, that of Charlestown, the battle of Camden, at the Battle of Jamestown point and numerous skirmishes , too tedious to mention. At last being taken prisoners with Lord Cornwallis at Litle York Virginia all which is well known to most of the officers in said Regiment and in particular to Lieut Patrick McDougall, Capt Archibald Campbell Achlian & others so that it is expected Government will be pleased to consider the number ??? dangers they have encontred and grant them a pension as a recompense for their faithfull services equal to that bestowed upon some of the surviving soldiers of said Regt.
